There are many outdoor solutions available on the market today, but few seem to prioritize performance. By applying our decades of experience in designing world class speakers for inside the home, we genuinely believe we have helped bring true high-performance sound outside.
Using multiple speakers with a subwoofer ensures that sound is more evenly distributed throughout your yard and allows the system to be more easily heard at lower volumes which also helps avoid noise complaints.
This system can easily be driven off a traditional stereo amplifier and its toolless assembly makes installation simple. All that is needed to finish the job is a shovel, a pair of wire strippers, and some outdoor/burial speaker cable.
MartinLogan Outdoor Living products have undergone rigorous testing to earn their IP54 (Satellite Speakers) and IP58 ratings (Subwoofer). This means that Outdoor Living products have been built, tested, and certified to survive the elements for many years of worry-free operation.
The goal of the Outdoor Living series is to provide crystal clear audio that evenly covers the yard while blending in with your landscaping. Traditionally, outdoor speakers are quite similar in appearance to their indoor counterparts. Of course, their all-weather construction and mounting hardware make them ideal for outdoor use, but their appearance is generally all but subtle. Traditional outdoor speaker solutions are typically not used with a subwoofer and rarely deploy enough channels to cover an area evenly. This results in listeners having to turn the volume up to get adequate sound where it is needed, often resulting in noise complaints.
With the Satellite + Subwoofer design of the Outdoor Living series, the bass is handled by a dedicated subwoofer that uses a specially designed port and hood to evenly distribute bass within a listening area. This not only removes a lot of stress from the other speakers, but it also means you get an incredible full range sound at ALL volumes. Since the bass is being handled by a subwoofer, the other speakers can also be much smaller in size making them easier to hide while still providing great sound. Using more speakers ensures that sound is more evenly distributed throughout your yard and allows the system to be more easily heard at lower listening levels, something traditional setups typically struggle with. By doing this, demand on the amplifier is reduced and neighbors are not disturbed . Think of it this way: When lighting a large outdoor area, using multiple floodlights on a dimmer set to a low setting is far more effective than using a single floodlight with the dimmer set to high. If you want an outdoor audio experience that covers an area evenly with clear full range sound even at low volumes, the Outdoor Living Series from MartinLogan is right for you. There are several options of products designed to meet the needs of a variety of installations. The Foundation 8.1 system contains 8 speakers and 1 subwoofer that can easily be driven off a typical stereo amplifier. For more custom solutions, we also offer subwoofers and satellites “a la carte” or in a 4.1 package with the satellite speakers featuring selectable impedance. Offering not only 8 ohm, but both 70 volt, and 100 volt operation, these satellites offer a wide range of install flexibility with select amplifiers being able to drive up to 100 satellites off a single 70 volt channel. So, no matter the scale of the system you need, there is an Outdoor Living product that is right for you.
There are many outdoor solutions available on the market today, but sadly few seem to prioritize performance. There is often a significant difference in sound between indoor systems and outdoor systems. By applying our decades of experience in designing world class speakers for inside the home, we genuinely believe we have helped bridge that gap. Outdoor Living satellites use high performance aluminum dome tweeters with specially designed, wide dispersion “phase alignment” technology that helps evenly project sound throughout the yard. These proprietary tweeters are always coupled with either a 4” (Foundation System and SAT40) or 6” (SAT60) weather resistant woofer designed for both high performance and long life outside in the elements. To fill out the sound, all our in-ground subwoofers use high-output, water resistant drivers inside a HDPE enclosure (the same material used for underground water systems) for worry free operation. These 8” (Foundation System), 10” (SUB100) or 12” (SUB120) subwoofers are designed to be discrete with only the “mushroom cap” hood visible. This hood not only evenly distributes the bass, but it keeps the woofer protected from the elements and provides a constant flow of fresh air for worry free operation. Outdoor Living speakers carry an IP54 rating, and all subwoofers carry an IP58 rating and have been successfully tested underwater and in environments from -20°F to 185°F.
